I understand that you do not share this person's ideology but I have to admit that I see red when looking at this picture.
Most of my people and quite a few of my direct relatives were killed by the real Nazis (I am not a Jew) and I have had these jackasses and other types of white supremacists giving me grief over my life.
I respect you and could have photographed him myself (as long as he did not become violent or insulting to me) but I would not share bread and wine with him. Be mannerly if he is mannerly, yes, but break bread... no.
I wish the Neo-Nazi crowd to stop tainting my religion with their tripe. I get tired of getting weird looks for having a black girl friend and telling people I worship The Norse deities. Hitler was not even Asatru. He joined the Thule Society to use them while being a devout Catholic. He even wrote in his diary about how foolish he thought they were for following a tradition founded by people who threw great works of art into bogs while Rome built the Colosseum. For fuck sake people get over the man, genius? Ok, maybe. Asshole supreme with a side of bat-shit crazy? ABSOLUTELY!!
So true. However, it would be nice if those brown-shirts had not taken the past and twisted it to suit their own corrupt ends. Asatru was never about superiority or race, blood and pride maybe, but not race or superiority. Nazi used to mean the same thing as "patriot". The Swastika never existed until Hitler took the sun wheel and reimaged it. The eagle was an emblem of Odin, depending on tribe, and the twin lightning bolts are obviously a tribute and a call upon Thor. I am surprised Tyr was not represented. Oh well. Enough. I have my ideas and others have theirs and ultimately time will remove us all.
I just see hatred as rank cowardice and I do not see my gods as cowards. I see them as rising above such stupidity and weakness to put an end to their enemies. If anyone represents bigotry and such short-sightedness to me, it is the Jotuns.
However, it would be nice if those brown-shirts had not taken the past and twisted it to suit their own corrupt ends. Well, there's nothing you can do about it, except for some awareness-training, maybe.
Nazi used to mean the same thing as "patriot". No, Nazi is the abbrevation of "Nationalsozialist", so it's connected directly to nazism. Maybe there were some members of the NSDAP, who were mainly patriots and not real Nazis; but a real Nazi is a fascist (of the German variety).
The Swastika never existed until Hitler took the sun wheel and reimaged it. The sun wheel can be found in several cultures, it's a buddhist symbol as well.
I just see hatred as rank cowardice and I do not see my gods as cowards. I'm an atheist, but I like, that Odin, for a seemingly "babaric" god, sacrificed his eye and ritually killed himself (hanging on the tree) to gain wisdom.
"No, Nazi is the abbrevation of 'Nationalsozialist'" When I made my statement I was going off a source I forgot to fact check. I found nothing in support. I also no longer have the book to see if I misquoted or just forgot what Edred Thorsson wrote in Futhark.
I have to admit I admire your ability to simply photograph the man. I would have slapped him if he were truly a Neo-Nazi. Just having this on one's body does not make one a Nazi, it is highly indicative, but it does not equate to automatic truth. I love people, but I find very difficult to tolerate those who espouse idiocy and foolishness out of ignorance.
He is also not using the Elder Futhark. Kind of ironic when you consider Asatru are a folk(family and people, NOT race) based tradition, you feel the call and happen to be Native American? *shrug* Maybe there's a viking in your family tree somewhere.
