Birth is part of the cycle of life, which is nature--life itself. The fetal position will almost always invoke emotion in the observer. This is because the fetal position, while representing birth or rebirth, also represents innocence and any great stress; stresses such as great fear and pain, extreme cold, sorrow and grief.

For most people, seeing a child or adult in the fetal position will immediate invoke compassion and softness of the heart.

That is why the fetal position is a such a good pose. The photo will invoke different emotions and moods, depending on the observer, and I believe this to be a good thing to achieve in art.

In this photo, the model looks at peace, seeking this position for comfort and warmth.

I always like photos using this position, because it always evokes an emotional response.
